Taking pets with you in the car can be fun, but your carpet floor mats or fabric upholstery aren’t very forgiving when it comes to cleaning up pet hair. Some techniques and tools can really help to keep your interior pristine.

Prevention is always a good strategy. Covering the area where your pet will be with towels or a dedicated pet blanket will help to protect seating, as will giving your pet a thorough brushing before they get in the car.

After the ride is over, lightly misting any fur-covered areas with water and rubbing in one direction with something made out of rubber, like a pair of kitchen gloves or a specially made rubber upholstery brush will help collect the hairs into a clump, making them easier to vacuum. You can also blow up a balloon, rub it to create static, and hold the balloon close to your fabric, where the static will attract loose hairs to the balloon’s surface.
